Oreo Cookie Cookies

Oreo Cookie Cookies

a cookie inside a cookie. what could possibly be wrong with that concept?

Oreo Cookie Cookies

recipe adapted from cookiemadness

5 tablespoons Earth Balance margarine
5 tablespoons granulated sugar
5 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 Ener-g egg replacer
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
5 oreo-style cookies, cut in half, then cut in thirds
2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips

preheat oven to 350°F. line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

beat margarine and sugars together until creamy. add “egg”, vanilla, beat until smooth.

in a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

add flour mix to margarine mix, combine well.

add oreo pieces and chocolate chips with your hands, being careful not to crush oreo pieces too much.

form into balls, 1 1/2 tablespoons worth of dough per cookie. pat them down just a little.

place on baking sheet. bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are brown.

let cool on sheet for a few minutes before attempting to remove. place on cooling rack.

Yield: 18 cookies

Wow, nikki said it best, cookie goddess!
I’m gonna have to make a double batch of these…Not because I’m going to share, because I’m really going to eat 12 monster cookies! I’m serious!

Yeah, it’s crazy, but it’s genius, too!

be prepared to have people throw themselves at you for you to bake more for them! they’re goooooooooooood. I froze some of mine so that I wouldn’t eat them all in one sitting. sinful to the max! :D
I’m so glad to see your blog hasn’t gone, danucal! I was a bit worried. yay!

I’m actually sort of scared of the riot that will occur when I mention these cookies. Maybe I’ll make two double batches…One to calm me down, the other to enjoy after the cookie-crazy chaos quiets down! LOL…No, I’m not that greedy, really…Seriously. ;~)

Thanks for looking out for my blog!

I just took a bite of my first oreo cookie-cookie!

It was warm, soft, and…buttery?..Well, earth balancey! I didn’t add any cream of tartar, and I baked them for 12 minutes instead of 15. I was suprised that the oreos seemed to meld into the main cookie batter so well because I expected it to taste sort of like 2 different cookies, but it really works, it’s not just a gimmick! :)

i have a semi-sweet chocolate bar that I’ll try using instead of chips next time, for the chunks. I’m also thinking of trying the mint-flavored oreos (heard they’re vegan) for a change of pace. It was very fun to make and easy to boot, thanks celine!

Hi! I have two questions…is the cream of tartar a must for the recipe? Can I make these with chocolate chips instead of oreo’s?

hey Mish! you can definitely sub chocolate chips for oreos. or you could add pieces of another cookies if the problem is that you can’t find oreos where you’re at.
you could probably replace the cream of tartar with a little more baking powder instead, but I have not tried this and cannot guarantee this will work.

ooooohhhhh… these sounds so good! i believe my oreo-snarfing five year old will devour the entire batch.. :) i still have time to surprise him for when he comes home from school. question, though, though: i don’t have Ener-g on hand, would the “flax seed egg” work here, too?
