Half and Half Germy bread
Posted by Celine on June 8, 2007
no, it’s not a recipe for a bread made with “half and half”. it’s just using 2 different flours in the same amount. oh yes, I am a smart donkey.
this recipe is for bread machines. I’m a spaz, so I forgot to take pictures, but trust me when I say it’s mega-licious. does that even mean anything?
for a 1 1/2 pound loaf…
1 1/4 cup water [room temp is fine]
2 T soft margarine
1 1/2 cup bread flour
1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
3 T wheat germ
2 T sugar in the raw [or whatever sug-sug you prefer]
1 1/2 t salt
2 t active dry yeast
place all ingredients in the order they are presented up here or following manufacturer’s instructions.
go for basic cycle. kick back and relax while the machine does all the job for you, you lazy butt.
let cool on a rack.
recipe adapted from “bread machine cookbook”
note to self: next time I feel like having whole wheat bread, be sure to go for textual bulldog’s recipe, or she will kick my butt.

oh no, will not, will not! :) it’s actually not particularly “my” recipe, anyway, since i adapted it rather than plucked it out of thin air… i just think you’ll like it, but don’t worry, i’m a lover, not a fighter. would never kick butt. would, maybe, mail you a tempting loaf in the mail to convince you, but would never kick butt ;)

p.s. i’m totally going to try your germy recipe next because i have a sack of wheat germ in the fridge and no particular purpose in mind for it! will let you know how it goes!

oh I know you wouldn’t, TB, it’s just fun imagining that you would! :P
and you know, basically all recipes were adapted at some point, so yes, I insist, it is YOUR recipe. so there.
I never use my wheat germ either so it’s always a relief when I find recipes that use it or come up with ways of using it myself. it’s so good for you, right?
I’ll need to make bread soon so yes, your recipe is next on the list. either tomorrow or the day after. YAY!

I love collecting bread recipes. Until now, I only used wheat germ in smoothies and on soy yogurt… good to know I can actually, you know, make bread from it too!

Bazu!! I never know what to use my wheat germ for, and it’s always looking at me with its sad eyes when I open the fridge and it’s right there, untouched. poor germ.
