Testing them Blogging Waters again

another angle

I think I might be back, but not too camera-friendly just yet. oldish pictures of Swiss-based food will have to do for now…

the gratin up there was made using soy macaroni, the cashew ricotta from V-con [made with mostly pine nuts instead, as we ran out of cashew nuts], a simple marinara, and some cheezy sauce on top [from V-con too]. a great way to get ready for a 24+ trip home, let me tell you!

speaking of which, while vegan meals on Lufthansa are absolutely delicious and rich in good veggies and fresh fruit, they’re a bit lacking in protein: used to be that we received at least a salad of mixed beans [coupled with the grains they gave us, it was great], but now we either get none of this or just some sort of spread like Tartex. I kind of felt it the day after since it made the “getting over the jetlag” deal a bit tougher. I’ll be sure to grab something protein-packed from home next time instead…
Bruns de Bâle

these were supposed to be chocolate chai snickerdoodles, but using a different sort of margarine and sugar (we had Panela) made them out to taste exactly like Bruns de Bâle, except for the texture. we didn’t have allspice but used “Butty pain d’épices” instead. I tried to look for info on the stuff online, but came out empty. same thing for the Bruns de Bâle, not many pictures or information to be found on the net in English at least. sorry!

anyway, it was haaaaaaaaaard leaving them behind for my dad to eat. because I’m greedy like that.

No Knead Bread

my dad’s version of the no-knead bread. not sure exactly what seeds and flours he used for it, except that he milled the grains and all that jazz himself. dedicated much? it was absolutely delicious!

No Knead Bread slices

I think I’m back on my feet enough to start baking and cooking again, especially since I’ve already done so yesterday. and yes, I still owe you that Kahlua roll recipe.
I’ve seen all the beautiful things you guys prepared thanks to google reader, but haven’t felt too chatty. hopefully that’ll come back soon. cheers!

  1. Welcome back! I’m glad the trip went well, 24 hours is long. I’ve never traveled that far! The gratin picture and description are making me hungry. Anyway, take your time to get back into the cooking/baking at home (though I am looking forward to the roll recipe)!

  5. nice to have you back.

nice looking food, of course. that bread picture almost inspired me to get right up and make some bread myself. Except that with that no-knead bread, I wouldn’t be able to eat it until tomorrow.

yes, I am a recent acquaintance of long, long travels - after heading 1/2 way around the world to India & back, and now I”m off to China in another week or so. Phew.
