Better-Than-Basic Chili from Yellow Rose Recipes

Better-Than-Basic Chili from Yellow Rose Recipes. one word: yum. to the max. but it’s not one word anymore, so you get to sue me.

I added some pan-fried ground seitan [recipe from Vegan Vittles], 2 T chili powder, and about one and a half huge organic red bell peppers that I found at Trader Joe’s. who knew organic bell peppers could look far better than their non-organic counterparts? I sure didn’t. thank you Mister Joe!

Maple-Oatmeal Sandwich Bread

this is a Maple-Oatmeal Sandwich Bread. I found the recipe in the Feb 08 edition of Bon Appétit magazine, and simply replaced the egg by 2 T ground flax whisked with 3 T warm water.

I think I’m in love with the magazine, by the way. provided I keep my eyes closed when reading the surrounding totally not vegan recipes, it’s a mine of good ideas and amazing food photography. there’s a handful of other things I’m dying to try already, probably later this week. I’ll keep you posted.

Chocolate Pecan Cookies

finally, some Chocolate Pecan Cookies, adapted from the S’mores Cookies recipe from the same ‘zine.
at first I wasn’t sure about them, but then I bit into a couple and I find them to be quite delicious. not the best cookies, like, EVAH! but they hit the spot of my hypoglycemic self a few moments ago. and in the words of Martha Stewart: that’s a good thing.

  1. That chili looks gorgeous! I love chili with fresh corn. I only just heard about Yellow Rose today, will have to check it out.

  2. If yum to the max isn’t one word, it should be! Because it definitely looks like it describes your chili, mm. I find that most organic fruits and veggies look far more attractive (and taste better too)!

I love flipping through the pages of Bon Appetit, it’s food porn at its best. =)

  4. I feel the same way about Donna Hay’s magazine — GORGEOUS photography, but it’s just so meaty! I have a hard time justifying spending $10 just to look at (some of) the photographs. Sigh.

  5. Oh that is making me hungry. Do you like the seitan from vegan vittles? I’ve yet to try it…
