Trader Joe’s Trail Mix Cookies and Esme’s Special Sauce [not together, mind you...]

Vegan Trail Mix Cookies

from Trader Joe’s. I love that they have 3 different types of vegan cookies (*) and I can’t wait to try them all.

I’ve made several things lately, but they were either reruns, or I haven’t been thrilled with some of the results so I’m officially on strike for a few. I’m also working on typing up [down?] the recipe for those Kahlua rolls I was yapping about a bit back, but my brain is one of an old, old person and I can’t remember exactly how I made them so I need to think a little [ow! my head...] before I post it.

Multigrain Flax Pasta with Esme's Special Sauce

one thing I have tried though and absolutely love: Esme’s Special Sauce. now I think everyone and their puppies have made it, but if you’re like me and a bit slow, you have to go try it now! I’m not even a tahini lover, but this sauce has made a believer out of me.
sidenote: the pasta I used here is the Multigrain/Flax mix bought at Trader Joe’s too, and it’s scrumptious if you get a chance to give it a try.

(*) vegan oatmeal chocolate chip, vegan chocolate chip, and obviously vegan trail mix.

  1. I must be very slow, because I had never heard of Esme’s Special Sauce before, let alone tried it! But I will now…thanks for the post! I am not a huge fan of tahini either, but I have some sitting around from a recipe I made forever ago, and it needs to be used up. I hope this will make good use of it!

  2. Wow, I’ve never seen these trail mix cookies at TJ’s, only the classic chocolate chip. I’ll keep an eye out next time I go!

  3. Trail mix cookies? Those sound so awesome, I may be travelling down south of the border this summer and I can’t wait to finally visit a Trader Joe’s!

I love Esme’s sauce, it’s got such a great and complex flavour, and soo fast and easy to throw together.

  4. Esme’s Special Sauce is definitely on my list of foods to make, it just sounds too good to be true!

  5. I too am not familiar with Esme’s Special Sauce but as popular as it sounds I must try it.

Celine, I must say that I am surprised you ever purchase cookies considering how many wonderful homemade variations you bake. Do you ever find store-bought that you prefer to your own?

  6. I made Esme’s sauce 2 nights ago. I loved it the first time I tried it then forgot about it. Oh, it’s SOOO good! I threw spinach and the much hated upon baby corn into mine.

Mmmmm cookies, cookies are always good!

  7. I believe Trader Joe’s Cookies are made by Uncle Eddie’s!

  8. I was just about to say that those cookies look suspiciously like Uncle Eddie’s trail mix cookies, but then Melisser’s post solved that mystery for me :)

  9. I have never heard of this Esme but the sauce sounds fantastic! I need to check that out. Oh, and do I need to rhapsodize about these cookies? Yes, I think I do. They look gorgeous, as usual. Please tell me you’ll start a cookie business. Maybe vegan cookie-grams? I will design the grams if you do the cookies. You always inspire me, Celine!

  10. that’s so sweet of you to say, Jessie! I would love to open some sort of bakery provided I’d find someone who’d be into it in town. I don’t think I’d dare throw myself into this on my own, to be honest. and the cookies up there weren’t baked by me, btw! they’re from TJ or Uncle Eddie’s from what some friends appear to think. delicious!

LisaRene: I can’t say I prefer a sort of cookie over another really [be it homemade or store-bought] since it all depends on the mood, but I must admit I do prefer knowing what is going into my cookies and the way they’re being baked, so homemade has the upper hand I guess after all. on the other hand, I also think it’s good to support businesses that make/sell vegan goodies in order to show them there is a demand for it, as opposed to seeing them give up on the venture due to lack of enthusiasm. especially when the cookies are good like these ones, of course, that doesn’t hurt.

  11. Oh, how I miss those TJ’s vegan cookies! We used to always bring them to school for meetings, classes, parties, everything. All my friends started buying them so they could share with me…. awww! (Not to mention those organic vegan truffles… wow I’m drooling now)

And I’m one of the slowpokes who hasn’t made Esme’s sauce yet, even though all those ingredients sounds awesome. Some time soon, I promise!

  14. Apparently I’m a little slow too, because I’ve never heard of Esme’s Special Sauce, however, I went home yesterday with every intention of trying it…of course, once I got home, I got distracted and made something else, but I dreamt about it last night! Soon, my precious, I’ll make it!
