tamarind, brown sugar & chile

after the candied hibiscus flowers, here comes the tamarind, brown sugar & chile. I mean, can you believe it? it’s delicious and I can see it appear in a lot of sweet or savory dishes.

dragonfruit & tamarind

  2. I love dried fruit!! You’re trying some rather exotic varieties that I haven’t seen - they look so enticing!

  3. I love all your beautiful photography, and I love how you make multiple posts a day, and I love how all your recipes only make enough for a small snack so I can still bake without having to worry about what I am going to do with it all. You are awesome :-)

  4. I brought some packages of Trader Joe’s dried dragonfruit to my tea last quarter (all the graduate students prepare tea one day each quarter). I didn’t like it that much, but I was amused to see that someone else brought some three days later. But there’s a Vietnamese girl in my department who was very excited because she has had fresh dragonfruit in Vietnam. It would be interesting to try the fresh fruit.

  5. I LOVE tamarind with chili! You know sour punch straws candy? In California, every once in a while, I could find the tamarind/chili flavor, imported from Mexico. They are the best candy- you should look for them!

  9. I just left a post on another gal’s blog talking about how much I miss Trader Joe’s! I’m a native Californian currently living in Austin (though this fall I’m moving to Boston) and even though I live just minutes away from the Whole Foods headquarters (and I do love Whole Foods!), I desperately miss Trader Joe’s! Their prices are great and I have yet to find a lotion as wonderful and affordable as theirs! Hmm…wonder if they have any in Boston? Anyhow, please keep sharing your Trader Joe’s finds! :)

  10. Yum, I’ve never had fresh dragonfruit either, which makes the dried version that much more mystical and delicious. Trader Joe’s is by far the best grocery store of all time. Granted, some specialty and health food stores may have some unique/cool items, but nothing really can compare to Trader Joe’s quality/prices/unique fare. Everytime I go, I spot something else that just sounds amazing. Last time I went I found a package of mini rye toasts. Whole grain, packed with fiber, an amazing crunch and a perfect amount of salt. I’ve been topping those bad boys with some habanero white cheddar from Whole Foods. Good stuff.
