Crank-a-thon 2008

April 18, 2008 at 5:47 pm | In Uncategorized |

it’s been what: 48 hours since I switched to a far-less-caffeinated kind of life? I swear I had an easier time when I quit smoking, honestly.

this bread helped a little with the crankitude, so I’ll share the recipe later. no bread machine involved, by the way.

in the meantime, have a look at this wonderful site where Jon Huck snaps shots of various people and the breakfast they eat.

  1. What a pretty post!

And PS- The smoked ricotta pie was delicious. I will be recycling that recipe with all sorts of veggies.

  2. I thought I was going to die after I gave up coffee. A week-long migraine was horrible. =(

White Chocolate Wonderful is such a nice relief though!

  3. If you’re looking for fabulous teas, try different rooibos flavors. I like “Toffee Rooibos” which I get at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in San Francisco… I recently cut out a lot of caffeine from my drinks (I didn’t drink coffee, though) too. I cut way back on black tea and replaced it with green and white teas and tisanes like rooibos. I was looking at a book in Borders the other day called “The Ultimate Tea Diet” - and it has some interesting recipes where you cook with tea… It’s not vegan or vegetarian, but it had some good ideas… Okay, now I’m rambling. Good luck with the caffeine-cutting!

  5. so happy to hear, Abbie!! :D

week-long, Romina? I am SO scared now. it’s unbearable as it is!

thank you for all the tips, magpie! I’m hooked on pomegranate pizzazz right now, well I’ve been for several years actually. it’s wonderfully refreshing even in the summer, makes it possible to drink hot beverages even when the temp is in the 100s outside. :)
I will check out the book you recommend the next time I’m at the local bookstore.

ha, Smita. you wouldn’t like it when I’m crankitudinal! oy.

  6. Celine, I tried cutting back on coffee by drinking green tea. Of course, green tea still has traces of caffeine in it (less than ordinary tea or coffee, but still), so what happened is that I ended up drinking about 5 cups of the stuff for every cup of coffee I used to drink.

Er, so then I had to wean myself off drinking so much of the stuff by drinking herbal teas.

Good luck with cutting back. Actually, I am hoping that this means more food posts from you (as a way of distraction from coffee cravings!) XD

  7. Did you get the white chocolate wonderful peanut butter from the internet or were you able to find it in a local store? My local Whole Foods doesn’t carry it usually, so I’d have to special order a case (12 jars!) from them, which I’m reluctant to do. I really don’t want to have to order it online! Please help!! Thanks!

  8. they’re out of it right now, Jay, but I ordered mine from Amazon. any other local health food store you could special order a smaller quantity from?

Erin: HA! it made me smile to think you had to wean yourself off of the stuff you had used to wean yourself off of…something else. priceless! speaking of posts, we need new ones from you, stat!

  10. I gave up coffee about 8 years ago and honestly, have no memory of it now! You may be a bit cranky for a little while, but then will feel SO much better!

  11. Ricki: the crank is gone already! such a relief, I don’t even replace it with non-herbal tea anymore. high five?

happyherbivore: ha! good to know we’re not the only peanut butter nutters out there. well, not that I ever thought we were but you know…to get written confirmation of it is always nice. ;)
