Summer in a Bowl

Salade de Fruits

now let me tell you, I’m no fan of summer: having 100F [and more] temperatures beat you down for at least 6 months is not my idea of fun, nor will it ever be.
but of course, the positive aspect in all this, because you have to find one somewhere, is that with summer comes a bountiful of amazingly ripe and deliciously sweet fruit, and it’s already starting here.

I got the pineapple on sale at Vons, same as the organic strawberries, and I was expecting to be blown away by these more than I would be by the organic kiwi fruit bought at Trader Joe’s.
I was wrong! I like kiwis to be not too ripe at all [contrary to my bananas], and these ones? they taste like blueberries! what a lovely burst of flavor it is when you bite into a piece…
I’m glad the crisper drawer is packed full of these because I will be working on them in no time at all.

and yes, the pineapple and strawberries were good too, but I might not dive into them at the same time as His Highness The Kiwi so as not to have it make them pale in comparison.

sidenote, but I’ve been having the banana pecan barley pudding from ED&BV for breakfast these last few days, and it packs a punch of energy that lasts through the morning, if you ever want to have something other than oatmeal or whatever you have for b-fast.

  1. Such a nice picture, really shows that good aspect of summer! I know what you mean, though, too many super-hot days are no good at all.

  7. I miss fresh strawberries… those look delicious! Well, I guess one of the perks of the Finnish summer is that it’s never too long (nor too hot) to beat you down - I hadn’t thought of it that way before! A hot summer around here means a week of maybe about 75 degrees F.

  9. 100 degrees 6 months a year?? Ouch!!

Good thing there’s nice refreshing fruit to keep you cool. =)

  10. maybe not exactly 100 every single day of those 6 months, but not too far from it, Romina. yuck!

Anni: I shouldn’t complain because even though the heat lasts for a long time over here, we still have the [un-environmentally friendly] AC to keep us cool.

great minds? they really think alike, Liz.

    Avery: hurry up, Maine!

thank you for taking the time to comment, everyone!

  12. Yeah, I tend to have oatmeal for breakfast almost every day… I’ll have to try the pudding to switch things up. Your fruit salad look great; I actually made one for lunch that has mint and lemon juice in it. Can’t wait for lunchtime now :)
