Chocolate Lavender Bread Scrolls

Posted by Celine on May 8, 2008

Chocolate Lavender Bread Scrolls

they are absolutely delicious, but I want to work on them again when it comes to appearance. there’s a couple of things I didn’t think about prior to getting started with the kneading: I would have loved the chocolate part to be darker, which will be corrected by adding cocoa powder to the dough, instead of thinking that grated bittersweet chocolate will do the trick.

I’m already plotting the next bread, and let’s just say it will make good use of the chili I was wondering what to do with…

on another note, check out the menus I have in mind for the coming days.
I.
can’t.
wait!

Celine, your speaking my language! And before I make another batch of your great Kahlua Rolls I could also try these. I even have some lavender!

What about this little guy next to me?

  6. Bianca- Vegan Crunk Says:

I think the appearance is lovely! And delicious-looking! Wow, I love me some lavender. Nothing smells better than fresh lavender. I recently bought a chocolate lavender Dagoda bar and the combo is perfect together!

  7. Kathleen Says:

  8. jamie Says:

I hope you post the recipe soon! This looks perfect for a mother’s day brunch (yumm-o)!

  9. Deb Schiff Says:

It’s all just one big Trader Joe’s commercial, isn’t it? ;D I know, I’m a TJ’s lover too. All over my blog as well. What a cool sponsor they’d make, eh? Your swirls look lovely.

  10. Kevin Says:

    Those scrolls look really good!

  11. bazu Says:

Damn! You need another trophy. When will you open a cafe? In NY?

  12. Nick Says:

Nice looking bread, but what makes them scrolls and not rolls? Is it because you just felt like adding “sc” to it?

I don’t know what green-ka is unless it’s quinoa with greens, but I’m really looking forward to that chili and the corn muffins.

By the way, I like bazu’s idea of you opening a cafe in NYC. That’s one of my dreams, to own a nice & fancy but healthy & relatively cheap restaurant in NYC. I’ll team up with ya.
I want to be that owner guy that checks on the kitchen but walks around making sure everyone is enjoying their meals =).

what an awesome blog!! Here I was, trying to find something sweet to make for my vegan-friend’s birthday and I’ve struck gold. That being said, I must continue and see what else is hidden here.
ps. also, any suggestions as to what I can make for her would be very much appreciated! you rock!

Wow! Always so fantastic! I’ve never baked a bread ‘coz I’ve always thought they were too plain stuffs to bake. But yours are an inspiration!
    Ceux-là me donnent l’eau à la bouche.
I’m gonna have to try one of your recipes… very soon!

My oh my…what a clever combination of flavors. Food should be pretty to look at, and these scrolls definitely are!

And yes Celine, it’s true, owls DO eat cookies! Really!

  17. TJF Says:

Seriously, are you going to post a recipe?

I have these cranberry marmalade refrigerator preserves that I need to use up…I think I need an idea of something to bake them into, some nice cranberry marmalade scrolls?

  18. Celine Says:

not yet, TJF, but eventually. I’m a tease, I know.

I call them scrolls because they were supposed to look more like scrolls! they’re not rolls per se, since usually there’s a filling in those, but considering the chocolate part of the dough didn’t come out too dark…it’s harder to notice, I guess.
if you guys fund a bakery and come work with me, all I have to say is HELL YEAH, let’s do it. ;p

oh and Nick, green-wa is indeed a mixture of greens, quinoa, and a crapload of other goodies. I won’t post the recipes since they’re from various books, but I’ll be sure to mention how it all was.

ha, vegan addict, so it’s true what they say about owls. I’ll be sure to bring some cookies the next time I know I will encounter my owly friends.

thank you for the add, Kitteh!

not just a TJ ad, Deb: a Grocery Outlet one too. how could you forget??

thank you everyone for the comments! I’m a little scatter-brained today [ha, if only it was just today!] so I hope I don’t sound as insane as I truly am. I mean uhm…

  19. Jackie Says:

My goodness. These look mighty delicious. I’m adding them to my must make soon list (along with the matcha chocolate rolls and the mustard beer bagels)! I’m going to be up to my elbows in yeast dough and I’m going to love every minute of it.

  20. Sophie Says:

I’m sorry I haven’t stopped by for a visit in so long…I’ve missed out on so much, it seems! Like these cool looking scrolls, for instance. I’ve never heard of ‘em, but now I’m curious to try them out :). BTW, your most recent post — love the way you photographed the little baggies of treats!

  21. Celine Says:

thank you Sophie and don’t be sorry, we’re all leading busy lives. :)
