Chickpea Wingz

Behold: the happy union of chickpea cutlets and tempeh wingz (scroll down for recipe).
Chaz loved the wingz part of the latter, but found out he isn’t so keen on tempeh after all. (Update: he loves tempeh now.)

I think I whipped up the whole thing in barely an hour (I had to work in 2 batches each time, because I used the counter top oven), so it’s not killer in the way of prep either.

Simply make a recipe of cutlets, but separate it in walnut-sized nuggets: I got 14 out of it. Flatten them on your baking sheet, and bake (at 375°F) for 10-15 minutes on one side, 5 on the other.

While they’re busy baking, whip up all the ingredients for the wingz, as well as the sauce.
Follow the instructions and assemble them, once they’re cool enough to handle, then bake for 7 minutes on one side, 3 on the other. Dip in sauce, and serve hot.

tu rigoles? t’es super douee! t’as rien besoin d’absorber du tout. par contre, si tu me donnes de tes talents de couturiere et de great personality, je suis preneuse.

  • [...] better to call these and I’m not to fond of wingz either. I got the lovely idea from this post by the fabulous Celine of Have Cake, Will Travel. I’m a huge fan of the Chickpea Cutlets in [...]

I made these tonight for dinner to make BBQ wingz (with Annie’s new Sweet and Spicy BBQ sauce) and put on a huge dinner sized salad. However, I didn’t have your instructions in front of me and forgot to bake the nuggets before I breaded them. They cooked up just fine with 15 minutes on the first side and about 25 minutes on the second, however; and made a very satisfing dinner.

Unfortunately, I also made most of them to big, so they went into the fridge and will become BBQ sliders next week, using potato rolls. They will make for great lunches with fourth of July leftovers.

These were the best wings I’ve ever made, thanks for the recipe

am I the wind beneath your wings?
thanks for letting me know and thanks to the ladies who came up with the recipes that build this one.

  • [...] Chickpea Wingz! I might have posted about these before, but they are really great! They’re a wonderful combination of the Chickpea Cutlets from Veganomicon and the Tempeh Wingz from Don’t Eat Off the Sidewalk, united in one recipe by Celine from Have Cake Will Travel. Both those recipes were already favourites of mine, so the idea of combining them is genius! I think they’ve also finally convinced my boyfriend that chickpea cutlets are actually delicious, versatile, and not scary, so I couldn’t be happier. [...]
