Banana-bean-arama says: It’s a cruel bummer.

May 28, 2008 at 12:59 pm | In blahblah |

I don’t know what it is with me being so keen on anything involving black beans & bananas lately, but let’s just say it’s a combo that’s most definitely doing the trick.

proof is in the pudding: Banana Black Beans from VegWeb. oh yeeeeeah: that’s the stuff!

speaking of pudding: you guys have got to try Robin Robertson’s recipe for coconut pudding, which can be found in the summer of 07 issue of VegNews. I’m trying to see if it can be found online but no luck so far. it has the same taste and texture as what I used to eat as a kid called riz au lait, known here as rice pudding. considering I had been looking for the vegan equivalent for what seems to be forever, I couldn’t believe my luck when I took the first spoonful of the stuff.
e-mail me if you want the recipe: I don’t feel comfy posting it here since I made no changes to it.

in other news, I’m going to be busy shooting pics for a friend’s dog treat business, so I might put trying new recipes on the backburner for a few. or, you know, I might be totally deluding myself into thinking I can stay away for even a day. either way: happy hump day!

illustration obviously not by me, found on google. who’s the artist, though? I have no clue.

  2. Banana black beans, eh? Intriguing!

Haha, cute illustration :0) Reminds me of that banana from the infamous “peanut butter jelly time” video on YouTube (have you seen that crazy thing??)

  3. Our local Mexican restaurants serve this. They actually offer plantains or bananas. They are interesting!

  4. Your title has me cracking up- I love bad puns (as you know from my blog).
This might be one of those jokes that only the born before 1984-set gets…eeks! :)

  5. I love the banana+black bean combo too - my favorite version of the black bean brownies was subbing the butter with bananas… Soooo good and creamy. I’ll definitely have to try the pudding.

  6. Love the idea of cooked bananas (in something that’s not baking!). And congrats on the doggie photos–maybe you can post some of them, too!! :)

  7. That banana looks really scared — like someone is about to eat it!

Too many people have said good things about that VegWeb recipe for me to be skeptical anymore. I need to try that and those BBBs you always talk about!

Congrats on your photography gig? Are you going to be showcasing your finished photos, or are they top-secret?

  8. Oops, I didn’t mean to put a “?” after “gig” — that looks kind of weird and ambiguous. It should be an exclamation mark. :)

  9. Ohhhh…that recipe sounds like something I should make! I’m a little skeptical, but considering that bananas and I are soulmates, I think I’ll give it a shot.

  10. never thought of combining those two flavors, but it makes sense considering black beans and plantains go so well together…i’ll have to try it.

  12. I never would have thought about black beans and bananas before but now you have me very intrigued!

  13. I think black beans and bananas just have some kind of connection. While I love bananas, those black bean brownies turned out very banana-y, I need to try them again. That pie looks scrumptious too and for some reason that banana picture above is oddly familiar. Perhaps it’s a mockery of the “peanut butter jelly time” dance from a few years back?

  14. it’s funny several people find the brownies too banana-flavored, since I usually dislike that myself: sub pumpkin puree for the bananas or at least one of them, Nick?

  15. ha, Ruby, love the question mark! yeah, I definitely remember the PB jelly time thing: Chaz loves to sing it every now and then to make me feel like bludgeoning him. which always works, by the way.
