Rain or shine, I have to work out every day or I become a grumpier bear. I need something to keep me steady before I hit the road: an energy bar’s what I choose to munch on, but why do some of them have to be so sweet? I love sweet, just not right after waking up.
First case of awesome: the compostable tray they are stored in is made of recycled cardboard and can be used as a seed starter. I love nothing more than a company that tries to reduce waste and that seems to have good ethics at large. (I will put the tray to the test early next year, I’ll report back with pictures. I’ve got a crazy assortment of carrot and radish seeds that I’m way too excited to plant in the spring.)
Second case of awesome: all Thrive bars are vegan, gluten-free, organic, and non-GMO.
Third case of awesome: Tastiness! The tray I received was filled with assorted flavors: Blueberry Lavender, Caramel Coconut, Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, Almond Apricot, Ginger Lemon, Chocolate, Nuts & Sea Salt. My favorite is Caramel Coconut, while Chaz’s is Ginger Lemon. (I expected his would be Blueberry Lavender, but he deemed it “just not sweet enough” for his taste.)
I agree that if you’re looking for a candy bar-like treat similar to what some other energy bars have gotten us used to, this isn’t it. And that’s a good thing for someone who is looking for honest, tasty fuel without the sometimes nauseating sugar rush.
The bars are slightly sticky, chewy, and just the right size: not too small but not gargantuan either. They don’t feel like they’d crush easily, so shoving one in your backpack or purse won’t yield a crumbly disaster if you get peckish on the road.
Time for one of you to get a chance to try these bars: leave a comment here and tell me if you eat vegan energy bars, and which one’s your favorite. (It’s perfectly okay if you don’t do energy bars, you can tell me that too.)
The winner will be randomly chosen and GoMacro will send them a Thrive Assorted Tray, the same I received.
Note that the tray will only ship within the US, sincerely sorry everyone else. The giveaway will close Tuesday October 12 at midnight PST. I’ll be in touch with the winner shortly after that, so be sure to use a current email address in the comment area. (If I don’t hear back within a couple of days, I will have to randomly pick another winner.)
Update: We have a winner! Congratulations to Becky, to whom I just sent a message. Thanks for participating everyone!
If you cannot wait to hear the giveaway results and want to try the bars now, here is a coupon code for 30% off of your purchase of Thrive at GoMacro’s online store: Thrive30
Oh and fourth case of awesome? A portion of proceeds for purchases of GoMacro’s also vegan Everlasting Joy bar goes to helping feed the homeless. I was hoping to find it at Trader Joe’s, but they only sell a couple of flavors and definitely not that one. Bummer.
